Does your work ethic expire if it is not used?

What should someone do if they absolutely adore what they do for a living, but they don't like the place they do it? I work in education and I love being around students, while aiding in their development, but the place I work is so unorganized, unprofessional, unconcerned, and unchanging. I feel like some of it is going to rub off on me and when I finally find a new job, I won't be good anymore. I know that's silly and it probably won't be the case, especially since I have actually voiced it as a possible concern, but I just don't want to get overlooked because of where I work. I just want to work in a place that makes me happy...I just pray that's not too much to ask.

  1. OMG . . . are you one of my coworkers? I understand EXACTLY how you feel! I've had two years in a row with new administrators who don't know the meaning of structure. I can't take another year like this! Next year will be the final trial for me. If it is anything like the past two years I will be finding myself another job . . . possibly in another field.
